Kauai Visit from Paul and Hailey

Hailey writes: "Kauai was gorgeous. They call Kauai the Garden Island because of it's lush green jungles. Kauai not only is the Hawaiian island that receives the most rainfall, but it is also home to the wettest spot on earth (the middle of Kauai receives more rainfall than any other place in the world). Only 10% of Kauai is habitable as much of the center of the island is mountainous terrain. Kauai is also home to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific".

Potential New Pump for William

Here is a picture of the pump William wears now.
Here is some information about a new insulin pump system for William. http://www.myomnipod.com/products/ Here Ruthy is testing out "how it feels" to wear it. As with the old pump, the sight has to be changed every 3 days. However, the insertion process and the reliablility of insulin is supposedly more accurate, painless and therefore less traumatic than the other for him. It is also less hazardous because there is no tubing involved, and a remote control can control directions to the pump. Since he is young and active, we are hoping this will fit into his lifestyle much better.

Recent Visit with my mother

Mom will be 91 on April 28th. They take very good care of her at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville, VA...about 1 1/2 hours drive from Lynchburg. We are very thankful that Mom still can think and remember things about her life. She still likes reading and has a TV with a DVD player included in her room on which she watches Animal Planet. We also try to keep her supplied with slide shows of the great-grandchildren and the family. My sister takes very good care of Grandma since she lives about 5 miles from the nursing home.

Andrew's Book Report

Andrew gave his book report yesterday at New Covenant Schools. He is in the first grade, and each child had to read about a "famous person" and write a book report. It is challenging for first graders to handle this, but, with their teacher's help and their parent's help, they succeed:) He did a very good job. All the children can dress up like their "famous person" if they want to, so, they look really cute. Andrew's person was John Adams.
